Organic chemistry for Pharmacy/Course code 221
Second semester/organic chemistry (three)
Course description:
The course is designed for Pharmacy students. It focuses on heterocyclic compounds, their structures, nature, abundance, reactions and synthesis and their importance in many drug structures. Principles and concepts of stereochemistry are studied with elaboration and the importance of stereochemistry in drug structure and synthesis. The last part of the course deals with organic synthesis and explains some concepts of functional group transformation, retro synthesis and multi-step organic synthesis. The course is a prerequisite for medicinal chemistry and drug synthesis.
